Artist's Comments

Ugh, This has been sitting on my hard drive for two months, I finally decided to upload it to dA, and see if I get any useful tips. I'm happy with how the rock texture in the center has been turning out, but I have no idea how to do the waterfall or water textures in general. I'm also stuck on what to do with the canyon walls to the right and left. (This is the major hold up)

Photoshop - An insane amount of hours.

Download is 1500 x 1200, original image has dimensions twice that.

Water is tricky to do with painting. A good thing to remember is that most water isn't blue, it's transparent aside from all the junk inside it. The bottom perspective is heavily skewed to try to see the bottom, but in doing so, there's no clear horizon/vanishing point. I guess what I'm trying to say is that the top part looks in perspective, but the bottom is trying to deceive me. I think by pitching the water at the bottom a little upwards would go a long way.

As for the water itself, use a layer of varying transparent white for the outlines, and then fill in the colors in another layer? I dunno, never tried waterfalls before. :>
