The following passage is my best attempt so far at starting a basic perspective tutorial. I've realized that I can't start with a mathematical derivation, or even include any real math at all. I have to code a computer program that plays a competitive* game of checkers. I suck at checkers. I've only played one game that I can remember, and that was three years ago, I was totally obliterated. (Granted, that was verses the resident Checkers master, but still...) The tricky part is that my program will have a limited amount of time to make its move, so iterating through the five billion or so possible states is really not an option.
